About Me

I had my first piano lesson at 7 years old! Over the next ten years, I completed my classical training, achieving Grades 1-4 Piano Examinations at Trinity College of Music, London and Grades 5-8 at The Royal School of Music, London.

Having reached the world of intermediate piano, I began to yearn to play music within an orchestra. As opportunities for orchestral pianists were remote at the time, I decided to start learning the viola. At 13 years old, I auditioned for The Dorset Youth Orchestra and was thrilled to be offered a position in the viola section. My dream had come true! We performed regularly and I absolutely loved it!

Piano and viola continued to play an important part throughout my 4 years at Kent University, where I completed a combined honours degree in Music and Education. I continued to study and perform as a soloist pianist, as well as studying music theory and composition. I played viola for the Canterbury College Chamber Orchestra and also the Christ Church College Orchestra, performing around the UK and in my final year, on tour in Germany. Study for the Education part of my degree included child psychology, the curriculum and the art of teaching, which was supplemented with many happy hours spent in the classroom!

After leaving university, I started teaching in the primary school sector. After 5 years of general classroom teaching, I was asked to specialize in Music. As a result, I took up the role of directing and conducting numerous school choirs and also composing for and conducting various orchestras and chamber groups, continuing of course to teach piano privately throughout this time.

In 2004, my family (husband, twin daughters and son) moved to Germany, where I taught piano to students in the local international primary school. A couple of years later, my husband’s job took us to the U.S.A, where we stayed for 6 years! It was at this time that I set up my own Piano Studio, which I’m happy to say flourished. In 2012, very sad to leave my Studio behind, we made our final move back home and although our adventures were fun, I am thrilled to be back for good and settled.
